  • During the Harvest Fair in 2002, the Strathcona Mounted Troop performed its ride which included drills and charges.
    
    The Troop is stationed at the Edmonton Garrison. It is the only regular force cavalry unit in the Canadian Army and was created in 1924, The Troop performed until 1939 when the Second World War and mechanization of the army ended the use of the horse.
    
    The Troop was re-established in 1974, and performs musical rides, participates in civic events, rides in parades and puts on demonstrations of the cavalry sport of tent pegging.
    
    The Troop's sole purpose is to keep the cavalry traditions and spirit of Western Canada alive and well for modern generations to experience.
