The York Boats were the major means of transportation used by people in the 1700 and 1800s. A length of about 30 feet, they could carry 5000 pounds of supplies and equipment yet only needed 3 feet of water to float. The boats only lasted about 3 years so a constant supply of York boats was always being built.
